The Matthew O’Hanlon Combat 1003 Pro Hurley comes in P.120 finish with raw linseed oil ensuring a complete seal for strength and maximum performance life. It also has a P.40 grit scuffed bos enhancing touch performance.

Its bas design width at 163 mm is excellent not only for control but also for blocking and hooking, vital components of the star rated defender. A slightly weighted feel brings a sureness of strength and confidence in the contact and combat that comes with defensive hurling duties.

The outline profile of the Combat 1003 is an oversize Wexford style (The Pikeman model) with the slightly squarish bos, toe and heel that morphs seamlessly into a slender looking yet full feeling shaft. While the width gives excellent advantage in defensive skills it also allows for a forgiving sweet spot when striking the sliotar. The handle is a regular fit size and made in the traditional round oval comfort fit introduced by Philip Doyle Jnr™️ over thirty ago.

A Mid – Slightly higher volume of wood gives a feeling of completeness in hand which is achieved by only selecting planks with the correct wood density. These hurls are cut from centre quarter sawn boards and the highly sought after curved grain outer rift boards. Careful selection means that Matthew’s PRO Combat Hurley is a 1 plank in 400 to find the correct density, balance, visual and fibre grain tolerances. Matthew’s PRO 1003 Combat Mk I has a mid-lower end balance and is a great all round hurl.

The Matthew O’Hanlon Combat 1003 Pro Hurley comes with a free XL Lightning Grip applied and a second Free Replacement Grip included. Matthew replaces grips once a month in summertime and more often in winter and spring time to ensure maximum grip consistency.

Matthew’s grandfather was part of the great Wexford hurling team of the 1950’s so it’s no surprise that Matthew’s hurl is a development along more traditional Wexford styles. Matthew O’Hanlon is the current Wexford Hurling Captain and lead the team to win the Leinster Hurling Title 2019. Matthew plays Club Hurling with St James’s

Note: The PRO 1003 Combat is Matthew O’Hanlon’s current hurl which will continue its development in our workshop under Matthew’s guidance. Ongoing modifications continue during the off season on this model. Matthew increased the overall weight of hurl quite considerably at the start of the 2019 season. Models purchased throughout the year may have slight changes or modifications in line with ongoing development. Matthew currently uses a 35” hurl.
