Weighted Feel & Balance

The weighted Feel and Balance is obtained by our master craftsman’s hand and skills. Weight distribution through ash wood will vary from hurley plank to hurley plank and therefore the only way to ascertain the perfect weighted feel to one of hurls is for it to feel the same in the hand rather than being measured by calibrated weighing scales.
The craftsman must measure the hurl’s weight by hand. This is how you the player will measure your chosen model when it is first handed to you. By air bouncing the weight of the bos on your hurley arm and wrist.

Our craftsmen aim to deliver the feel good factor that comes with that first floated recoil from your wrist to you by ensuring that’s how it feels to them.

The Jack O Connor Ranger 1004 Pro Model Hurl comes in a P.120 sanded finish with raw linseed oil ensuring a complete seal for maximum life performance. It also has a P.40 grit scuffed bos to enhance touch performance.

Its bas design width at 163 mm means it’s largest bos in the PRO range and gets our 5 Star rating for control. While this model carries the widest bos it’s outline profile is shaped to give it a tidy look and feel. Key to the development of Jack’s Ranger 1004 Pro was short, sharp 30-50 yard passes off the hurl, impeccable control while also allowing accurate long range strikes at the posts. Jack O Connor’s model is fast becoming one of our best seller since its launch in Spring 2019.

The handle is a regular fit size made in the traditional round oval comfort fit introduced by Philip Doyle Jnr™️ for more than thirty years. Our PRO 1004 Ranger has a mid/light weight and a touch of lower end balance to aid accurate striking and carries a mid to full volume of wood. This is only achieved by selecting the planks with the correct wood density and weight distribution. All PRO 1004 Ranger hurls are cut only from center quarter sawn boards of Grade AA Timber. Pro Ranger 1004 hurls are made from only the highest quality 1 in 400 plank to find the correct density, balance, visual and fiber grain tolerances.

This model comes with a White XL Lightning Grip applied and a second replacement grip free. Jack replaces the grips on his hurls usually about twice per month.

Jack is part of the famous O’Connor hurling family in Wexford. L’Ash Go Leor have made hurls for both his father and uncle and appreciated the development of this model would be very precise

**Note. The Jack O Connor Ranger 1004 Pro Model Hurl is the current Hurley in use by Jack and will continue its development in our workshop under his guidance. Models purchased throughout the year may have slight changes or modifications in line with ongoing development. Jack is 6’4” and currently uses a 35” hurl.
